Airbus Sees 11% Increase in Aircraft Deliveries in 2023
Airbus has achieved a significant milestone in 2023 by delivering 735 commercial aircraft to 87 customers worldwide, marking an 11% increase compared to 2022. The aerospace giant registered a robust 2,319 gross new orders (2,094 net), with an impressive backlog of 8,598 aircraft at year's end. This surge in deliveries and orders underscores Airbus' recovery and acceleration in modernizing global aircraft fleets with its latest generation of fuel-efficient aircraft.
The 2023 deliveries predominantly featured the A320 Family, with 1,835 units, and the A350 Family, with 300 aircraft, highlighting the aviation industry's shift towards more environmentally friendly and efficient models. Airbus' success in 2023 reflects not only its strong performance in a complex operating environment but also the recovering aviation sector's confidence in its products.
Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed his satisfaction with the company's performance. "2023 was a landmark year for Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business with exceptional sales and deliveries on the upper end of our target," he said. Faury credited the achievement to the company's flexible global industrial system and the growing demand from airlines to upgrade their fleets with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.
Christian Scherer, the newly appointed CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, highlighted the faster-than-anticipated recovery in the aviation sector, especially in the widebody and single-aisle markets. "We have never sold as many A320s or A350s in any given year," Scherer noted, indicating a strong resurgence in travel and significant momentum in the industry. He also emphasised Airbus' commitment to a lower carbon future, with 735 more fuel-efficient jets added to the skies in 2023.
