Jetstar Asia announces new Chief Executive Officer

Jetstar Asia has announced a significant leadership change as John Simeone steps in as the new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Barathan Pasupathi who led the airline for nearly 12 years. This executive transition will take effect from March 1, 2024.

Barathan Pasupathi, who has been at the helm of the Singapore-based low-cost carrier for almost twelve years, will step down to explore other opportunities. During his tenure, Pasupathi was lauded for his dynamic and passionate leadership, significantly contributing to Jetstar Asia's positioning for future success. His stewardship has been instrumental in increasing the airline's fleet, launching new destinations, and expanding the team.

John Simeone, the incoming CEO, is currently serving as Qantas’ Senior Vice President for Asia. He brings over 30 years of global experience in the aviation industry, with expertise across various key commercial and operational functions such as network planning, revenue management, and sales. Simeone's appointment is viewed as bringing continuity and strong leadership to Jetstar Asia, particularly his deep knowledge of the Singapore and Asian aviation markets.

Jetstar Asia Chairman Dennis Choo expressed his gratitude to Pasupathi for his exceptional contribution to the airline, noting his role as a champion of the brand and its people. Choo also commended Simeone as a fantastic people leader whose extensive experience in aviation would be invaluable for Jetstar Asia’s continued growth and expansion.

In his comments, Pasupathi expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure and confidence in Simeone's capabilities to lead Jetstar Asia. Simeone, on his part, acknowledged the significance of Jetstar Asia in Singapore's aviation landscape and its role in providing affordable travel options. He aims to continue building the airline’s capacity and connectivity from Changi Airport, thereby enhancing low-fare offerings to various destinations in the region.

Simeone’s focus will be on continuing the exciting growth journey that Jetstar Asia has embarked on, ensuring the airline maintains its commitment to providing great experiences for its customers.

The leadership transition at Jetstar Asia comes at a time when the airline is expanding its network post-pandemic, resuming flights to Mainland China and Okinawa, Japan. With a fleet of eight Airbus A320s, Jetstar Asia plays a crucial role in the regional aviation sector, offering low-fare travel and connecting to the broader Qantas Group in Asia.
