Jetstar Announces Direct Flights Between Brisbane and Bangkok

Jetstar Brisbane

Jetstar has announced the launch of direct flights between Brisbane and Bangkok, set to begin on December 13, 2024. This marks Jetstar's 20th route from Brisbane and will be the only non-stop service between the two cities. The new route, operated by Jetstar’s 787 Dreamliner aircraft, will offer three flights per week, expected to transport over 100,000 passengers annually, significantly boosting Queensland’s tourism economy.

The direct flights will dramatically reduce travel time, cutting the journey duration to just over eight hours, compared to the longer, indirect routes currently available. To celebrate the new service, Jetstar is offering a special 24-hour launch sale with one-way fares starting at $205.

Jetstar’s expansion in Brisbane is part of a broader strategy supported by the Queensland Government’s Attracting Aviation Investment Fund (AAIF) and Brisbane Airport. This new route follows a strategic partnership established in 2023 with Brisbane Airport, aimed at increasing low-cost travel options. This partnership has already enabled direct flights from Brisbane to Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, and Auckland.

In addition to the new Brisbane-Bangkok route, Jetstar is also introducing flights from Perth to Bangkok and Phuket. By the end of the year, Jetstar will operate up to 22 flights weekly between Australia and Thailand, reinforcing its commitment to providing affordable travel options.

Jetstar Group CEO Steph Tully emphasized the benefits for Queensland travelers, highlighting the convenience and affordability of the new direct service. Tully expressed gratitude to the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport for their continued support.

Queensland's Tourism Minister, Michael Healy, underscored the significance of this new route, noting the record numbers of Thai visitors to Queensland and the importance of accessible travel for international students and other travelers. Healy also highlighted the economic benefits for local exporters, with air freight to Thailand reaching $46.5 million last year.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff celebrated the new connection, pointing out the strong demand for a direct route to Bangkok. De Graaff noted the added benefits for Queensland exporters, with up to 15 tonnes of freight capacity available on each flight, further enhancing trade opportunities.

Jetstar’s new direct service between Brisbane and Bangkok is set to become a popular choice for travelers, strengthening ties between Queensland and Thailand and providing significant economic and social benefits.
