Norwegian Group Continues Strong Summer Performance with 2.5 Million Passengers in May

In May, the Norwegian Group saw impressive performance, transporting a total of 2,472,976 passengers. Norwegian airline carried 2,138,484 passengers, marking a 12 percent increase compared to last year, while Widerøe, its regional partner, flew 333,492 passengers. The group's overall capacity increased by 19 percent, although the load factor slightly decreased by 2 percentage points to 82 percent. Norwegian operated an average of 84 aircraft during the month, reflecting the peak activity of the summer schedule.

Geir Karlsen, CEO of Norwegian, expressed satisfaction with the May passenger numbers. About 650,000 passengers traveled to southern European destinations, and there was a 7 percent increase in the average flying distance, indicating significant capacity growth to popular beach destinations. Norwegian's capacity (ASK) reached 3,466 million seat kilometers, up 19 percent from the previous year, while actual passenger traffic (RPK) was 2,843 million seat kilometers, a 16 percent increase. The airline maintained a high regularity rate of 99.5 percent and improved punctuality, with 86.1 percent of flights departing within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

Widerøe, a regional airline also under ownership by Norwegian in Norway known for its extensive domestic network, also showed strong results. Despite keeping similar capacity as previous months, Widerøe flew 10 percent more passengers compared to May last year. The load factor increased by 7 percentage points to 69.4 percent. Karlsen praised Widerøe’s performance and the team’s efforts in achieving these results.
