Mexicana de Aviación Places Order for 20 Embraer E2 Aircraft

Mexicana de Aviación, Mexico’s state-owned airline, has finalised a substantial order with Embraer for 20 new E2 aircraft, consisting of 10 E190-E2 and 10 E195-E2 jets. This significant deal, confirmed by Embraer underscores Mexicana’s commitment to expanding and modernising its fleet, with deliveries set to commence in the second quarter of 2025.

The E190-E2 aircraft will be configured with 108 seats, while the E195-E2 will feature 132 seats, both arranged in a single-class layout. Mexicana de Aviación’s decision to incorporate these models into its fleet marks the first instance of E2 aircraft operation in Mexico. The airline will benefit from the E2 series' low operating costs and superior fuel efficiency, aligning with both companies' dedication to sustainability and operational excellence.

Mexicana de Aviación’s fleet upgrade is a strategic move aimed at enhancing domestic and international connectivity, providing passengers with affordable and comfortable travel options while maintaining high standards of safety and service. This initiative is expected to strengthen the airline’s competitive edge in the market.

Priscilla Doro Solymossy, Embraer's VP of Sales and Marketing for Latin America and the Caribbean, praised the partnership: “We welcome Mexicana to the E2 family, the first E2 operator in Mexico. Seeing the success and rapid growth Mexicana has achieved since it restarted operations in December 2023 has been remarkable. The airline is already flying to 18 destinations, and has transported more than 115,000 passengers, accumulating more than 3,280 flight hours in this short period, reflecting Mexicana’s commitment to operational excellence and customer service.”

Since its relaunch, Mexicana de Aviación has quickly established a robust operational presence, flying to 18 destinations and transporting over 115,000 passengers. The acquisition of Embraer's E2 aircraft will support the airline's growth trajectory, offering enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

This fleet expansion is poised to bolster Mexicana’s ability to meet growing passenger demand and navigate the competitive aviation landscape. The partnership between Mexicana de Aviación and Embraer signifies a forward-looking approach to aviation, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and enhanced passenger experiences.
