Lufthansa Launches Seattle-Munich Route
In a significant development for travelers in the Pacific Northwest, Lufthansa has inaugurated its new non-stop service between Seattle and Munich, utilizing the environmentally friendly Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This addition bolsters the airline's existing operations, complementing the already established Seattle-Frankfurt route, and increasing Lufthansa's total flights from Seattle to ten per week.
The newly introduced flight, LH488, departs from Munich Airport (MUC) at 3:35 PM and arrives at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) at 4:59 PM. The return flight, LH489, leaves Seattle at 6:50 PM and lands back in Munich at 1:45 PM the following day. This service will be available three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, enhancing travel flexibility for passengers.
Dirk Janzen, Vice President of Passenger Sales for The Americas at Lufthansa Group Airlines, remarked, “Adding direct access to Munich, Lufthansa’s Bavarian hub alongside Frankfurt, is a welcome development for our customers throughout the Pacific Northwest, as well as the United States at large. The United States is Lufthansa Group’s most important market outside of the home markets, and so this new nonstop service between Munich and Seattle marks a significant step forward in connecting travelers and fostering economic ties between Germany and the U.S. west coast.”
The Airbus A350-900, known for its fuel efficiency and modern cabin design, promises a comfortable and enjoyable transatlantic journey. Passengers can choose from Business Class, Premium Economy, and Economy Class, catering to various travel needs. Lufthansa's use of the A350-900 aligns with its commitment to sustainability, as the airline continues to invest in fuel-efficient aircraft and sustainable aviation fuels to reduce its environmental impact.
With the launch of the Seattle-Munich route, passengers can enjoy more seamless travel experiences to Munich, a crucial European hub, and beyond. This route expansion is part of Lufthansa's broader strategy to strengthen its North American network. New direct routes are also being introduced from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to Frankfurt (FRA). Additionally, Lufthansa is increasing capacity on the Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Munich route with the introduction of the A380.
Lufthansa's new Seattle-Munich service is a key component of the Lufthansa Group's extensive North American expansion. This summer, SWISS, another airline in the Group, has launched direct flights from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Zurich. Austrian Airlines, also part of the Group, is introducing flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and deploying the modern 787-9 aircraft on the New York JFK to Vienna route.
The Lufthansa Group, comprising Lufthansa Airlines, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, and Discover, is committed to enhancing its presence across North America. This comprehensive network expansion offers travelers more options for seamless connections between North America and Europe.
