AirAsia X: A Leap in Growth and Expansion
AirAsia X Berhad (AAX), the long-haul affiliate of the AirAsia Group, has reported a robust performance for the fourth quarter of 2023 (4Q23). The company carried 890,289 passengers, a staggering 2.6 times year-on-year (YoY) increase, with a Passenger Load Factor (PLF) of 82%, up by three percentage points from the previous year. This growth is attributed to the company's strategic expansion in fleet size and network reach, especially during the peak year-end holiday season.
The company’s operational aircraft in Malaysia increased to 16, compared to six in the previous year, significantly boosting flight frequencies and network expansion. This expansion included launching new routes and increasing flight frequencies to key destinations like Seoul, Sydney, Melbourne, and Bangkok. For the full year, AirAsia X Malaysia posted a healthy PLF of 80%, with a 6.6 times growth in seat capacity, carrying over 2.8 million passengers, reflecting a YoY growth of about 6.8 times.
AirAsia X Thailand also recorded impressive results with a robust PLF of 86% in 4Q23, carrying 387,217 passengers. The company serviced six routes in 2023, encompassing core markets in Japan, South Korea, Australia, and China. The total fleet size for AirAsia X stood at 18 A330s, with 16 in Malaysia and eight in Thailand, showcasing a significant growth trajectory.
